The Foreign Mail issue of Mexican stamps was in service between the years 1879 and 1883. There were two designs commonly referred to as "Juarez" and "Numeralito". The stamps were produced in various denomination from 1 centavo to 100 centavos (1 peso). The issue, like many of the previous issues, typically had a district number and two digit year date imprinted on the face.

It is referred to as the "Foreign Mail Issue" because the stamps were only for franking mail that had a foreign destination.

Occasionally, stamps were returned unused from the district where they were originally sent and imprinted a second time and reallocated to a different district. Usually the second printing was done in red ink, although there are instances where black ink was used. Some of these will also have both district names affixed.
